I began training at One World in January 2010. My goals were to train for the August 2010 Transplant Olympics where I would be running track and to improve my muscle tone in general. After several years of illness, a kidney transplant and a bout with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, I was weak and feeling tired. I came to One World weighing about 156 lbs (at 5′10″) with about 22.5% body fat, perfectly normal by most medical standards. After only months at One World, I had a completely different body. As a vegan, I had always thought that my diet was optimal, but the elimination of starches, changed my energy and body composition drastically. I added another set of sessions to my original package after seeing these great results and when the Games came around last August 2010, I was ready (I have no idea how I would have fared in my former state). I won a gold medal in the high jump and a close fourth in all of my other races (as I was unable to train the week before the events due to a work trip). In all, I lost 5 - 6 lbs and reduced my body fat from 22.5% to 17% (at my best point before the Games) and 20% now. The strength I gained at One World has also helped me to deepen my yoga practice. I did a full headstand for the first time recently because I was confident in my own strength. I thank the trainers I had at One World for these amazing results. All were extremely knowledgeable and professional. They will continue to inspire me as I take my continued fitness into my own hands and most likely, I will be back to train at One World for the next Transplant Olympics in 2012.

Since joining One World Fitness, I have truly observed realistic results. I lost not only pounds and body fat, but I gained a healthier meal plan. “I LOVE One World Fitness! I’ve seen fast results and the trainers and workouts are great. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I joined One World Fitness because I wanted to get healthy but I didn’t want to go to a traditional gym where staff is indifferent, trainers are lax and people go to watch rather than workout. “A week and a half ago I met with my trainer and the owner of One World Fitness.
I have been at O.W.F. for about 3 months. At 2 months I was right on track and at 50% to my goal. When August came around I hit a plateau, my own doing. When I sat down with the owner he had me pegged, he knew exactly what I was thinking. I thought well I am looking good, my friends, family, and co workers have all commented on how good I look, I am going to eat this cookie after my salad today. So I started cheating on my eating habits, I felt that my cravings for fatty foods were not as strong so it was ok to eat a little junk food.
That day the owner and my trainer both sat down with me and discussed my progress. The folks at this gym really CARE, they take the time with their clients, and talk about difficulties and possible solutions. They don’t just train, they guide and mentor their clients. “After working out for the last 10-15 years in a gym - spin classes, running miles, lifting weights, crunches and more crunches etc - nothing compares to the results I’ve received from One World Fitness in only 7 weeks of training. “Joining One World Fitness was exactly what I needed. While I’m in pretty good shape, over the years I had managed to accumulate a little extra fat around ‘the middle’ and despite my best efforts working out and doing cardio to get rid of it, I hardly made a dent. Within three months at One World Fitness, I lost about 10 pounds, mostly fat! I was able to get into pants that I had not worn for years! My waist size went down from about 31/32 to 29 inches and I had to go shopping for new clothes. By the time my three-month program was over, I had gained lean muscular definition and showed the beginnings of six-pack abs!
What makes this program different, is that it begins from the inside out by focusing on the diet. The two-week detox is a great start to getting you healthy- while staying on this diet was tough over the three months, Derek and the other trainers were very encouraging and provided me with plenty of motivation to stick with it. Now, even after three months, and even though I am no longer in the program, I pretty much continue this diet and have stopped eating all the processed and sugary foods that add to my waistline.
Derek and the other trainers I worked with, did their best to bring variety to my routine and I found myself looking forward to all my workouts. They also pushed me far harder than I imagined they could and as a result, saw improvements within only a few weeks of starting the program. Even though my workouts weren’t always regular due to minor injuries and travel, I still saw a great improvements by the time I finished the program. In addition to looking better, I felt more energized, was sleeping better, and generally felt great overall. I’ve been able to maintain these benefits on my own following the same training schedule I did while at One World Fitness.
Karim and his team have created a friendly welcoming and informal environment. All the staff were very helpful and happy to answer any questions I had. “One World Fitness’ program has changed my perspective on personal training, nutrition, and everyday healthy living. The combination of both exercise and nutrition is encouraging and creative. Though I have always been an active person playing soccer, running outdoors, and exercising with yoga and Pilates - I was in a plateau workout situation and stuck with 7 pounds I did not want. I was burning calories quickly but my weight wasn’t dropping. With One World, I learned how to burn fat without stressing the body. My weight dropped 7 lbs in 9 weeks and my body fat percentage dropped 2 points. Also with One World, rather than just pushing the client to perform standard exercises longer or with greater intensity, the trainers bring a new paradigm. Derek, my trainer, challenged me with exercises which included balls, bosus (balance training ball), and plyometrics (fast powerful movements that involve loading and then contracting muscles in rapid sequence) that had me working 3, 4, and 5 muscle groups at once while I focused on mastering the form and posture of the routine. I found it much easier to stay mentally fresh while accomplishing a much more complete workout in an hour. “I’ve been training with Joe at One World for approx 12 weeks. I’ve always been in decent shape but really wanted to get stronger. I’ve been a cardio queen my entire life-running or biking was it. I’m in the military and while I always got a great time on my run for the PRT (Physical Readiness test), I always struggled with the push-ups. Just had my test a couple of weeks ago and trippled the number of push-ups I’ve ever done (went from doing around 20 to doing 58). I’m stronger than I’ve ever been and feel great. Been very impressed with the gym and trainers. They keep it simple and do not encourage the use of any supplements. I don’t stick to the diet plan as well as I should so I haven’t seen huge results in weight loss (but I was only looking to lose 6-10 lbs which I know would come off if I just stuck to it-my fault, not the gyms!”

“My program at One World Fitness completely changed the way I approach diet, nutrition and exercise. While I have always been active: working out, playing sports, etc, I had recently gotten to a “plateau”of sorts where I would work out but not experience any real benefit. My program at One World changed that. Basically, I had to re-think everything I thought I “knew” about burning fat and building muscle.
And it worked. While at One World, my weight dropped 17 lbs in 9 weeks and my body fat percentage dropped almost 10 points. I felt lighter, faster and I had more energy throughout the day. I started to notice that my clothes fit looser. Other people: work colleagues, friends and family also noticed that I was losing weight. My mom was actually worried that I was on some sort of “crash diet” where I was”starving myself” but she couldn’t be further from the truth. As I was losing weight, I was actually gaining strength. My speed and endurance increased also as I got rid of that excess fat. When I went to the doctor for my recent checkup, my blood pressure and resting pulse were both down significantly from my last visit. It’s easier than people think and it doesn’t involve any supplements or chemicals; it’s all natural. This is knowledge that I will use for the rest of my life.
As I see it: Personal Trainers have 3 primary functions: 1. To Instruct, 2. To Monitor, 3. To Inspire. The first two are the easiest. It’s the mastery of the last one that truly distinguishes the great personal trainers from the merely ordinary. It’s one thing to instruct a client on how to perform an exercise but it’s a different skill to ignite the inner drive of the client to really push him/herself to the physical limits of exertion. Michel certainly has that third skill. In each of our sessions, Michel knew how to push me to perform at the best of my ability and how to push past prior barriers and physical limits to find new strengths.”

“I signed up with One World Fitness in early April 2010. I was overweight, feeling sluggish and tired and looking for help to kick start a fitness routine. I wanted to be healthier but couldn’t seem to do it on my own. One World was the perfect solution and it all happened by chance. I was walking down 14th Street one Sunday afternoon. Dustin was standing outside One World Fitness talking to people about the program. He stopped me and asked me if I had any body fat that I would like to lose. Usually I would ignore an approach like this but I decided to see what he had to say. I knew that I needed outside motivation to get back into a fitness schedule—I wasn’t doing too well on my own. Furthermore, I was 61 years old and did not want to head into old age with a deficit. I wanted to lose weight, build muscle and gain balance and flexibility. After talking to Dustin and Matthew (MJ) for a few minutes I signed up for a consultation with Karim, the owner of One World Fitness, for the next day.
Karim spent over an hour with me that next evening. He discussed my body type and the regimen I needed to follow to achieve my goal. He explained the basics of the program in great detail. His approach was low key and no nonsense. He told me to stop drinking coffee –which I did not think possible, buy a juicer and start juicing and switch to organic foods whenever possible. My starting weight was 138 and my goal weight was around 120 –I had about eighteen pounds to lose.
He introduced me to my trainer, Derek, and we set up the first workout session for the next day. Derek is my son’s age and is a fabulous trainer. He set up a schedule for one hour workouts three times a week and designed a routine specifically for me. At first, I must admit, I was a bit skeptical and didn’t think I was going to get anywhere with the routine we were following. I found out quickly that I was wrong. I was expecting a lot more cardio in the workout and Derek’s routine was different- he had me doing strength training, weight lifting, core workout and stretching with rests in between. Derek was very easy to work with—he was patient and encouraging –always asking how I was doing, how the diet was going, how I was feeling etc, etc. I was so pleased to see progress the very first week there. As the weeks went on I continued to lose weight slowly and steadily and began to feel better—I could see some muscles, I wasn’t as tired in the evening and my clothes were starting to be too big. I also found that it was relatively easy to stay on the diet that is recommended—I developed a real craving for good food. I was down to my goal weight within three months which I think is amazing.
Before this, I was totally unaware of One World Fitness, even though I live just a couple of blocks away. I am very glad that Dustin stopped me that day and that I signed up for the program. Everyone at One World Fitness has been so nice, professional and encouraging. I ‘graduated’ on 6/30/10 and received my certificate. I even signed up for extra sessions for further strength training. I am very pleased with the entire experience.”

“Incidentally it is not just my body that is shrinking it is my closet also. I have gone from a 58L suit to a 50L (soon to be 48L) suit, and a 48 inch waist to a 42 inch waist (soon to be 40 inch)! As I come down I have been clearing out my closet. I have been surprised at the wide range of clothing sizes I have! It’s kind of like going on a shopping spree but costing you nothing! Many things I have not worn in over 5 years, and some pants, never! (they still have the tags on them where my wife bought them thinking I would someday fit into them). “This correspondence is typed to express my thanks and admiration to the staff of One World. When I originally was stopped on 14th St. and tested for my body mass index I weighed 192 lbs and was very excited at the prospect of not necessarily getting strong, but getting healthy. I am a 52 year old man and I have never had a gym membership or taken my diet serious enough to do anything about it. I ate out 7 days a week for over 30 years. Since I started the program not only have I lost 23 lbs. but my outlook on my health has increased dramatically. This is truly a “lifestyle” change as it is so appropriately billed. I especially thank my trainer, Jeremy Odoffin, for his excellent coaching. He keeps me encouraged, he guides me through the routines and is understanding of the fact I started this program in very bad shape and he makes adjustments based on my abillities. “Last Thursday (Jun 16) evening I was feeling pretty dizzy. Went home and realized that my blood pressure (BP) was hovering around 90/50. The day before on Wednesday I had had a complete blood work-up and was expecting to meet with my doctor sometime this week. However, on Thursday evening, after working out with Michel, in checking my voice mail I had received a frantic call from his nurse instructing me to get into to see him immediately, there were some major issues with my results.
With the dizziness and the BP issues I had a hard time sleeping until I woke up and sought my God as to whether anything was wrong. I opened to the following passage: ‘Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will.’ Romans 12: 1,2
I determined that I was going to continue the path of transformation and training, and simply tell the Dr. that whatever was causing all this, he would have to just deal with it. I felt too good to turn back. With the Word and decision I was able to go to sleep. I wasn’t able to get into to see the Dr. until Saturday (his office told me I could wait till then - he wanted the time to fully brief me). And did he! Reason for the concern . . . what had happened that caused my test results to be so good in less than a month’s time!!
He agreed and confirmed my stopping taking the diuretics, the metformin, the insulin (both lantus and humulog), the concerta, AND HE TOOK ME OFF OF ALL BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION AND BETA BLOCKERS (which are reported to cause memory loss)!! He was excited to see the significant amount of wait loss (per his scales over 33 lbs.) and ecstatic with the change in cholesterol levels! So FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 15 YEARS I AM OFF OF BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION!!
With an HbA1C level of about 8 (only 1 month of change on a test that monitors 3 months blood glucose) he had nothing but good things to say, revising his chart to show that my diabetes is being controlled by diet and exercise. He further gave me a complete diabetic health examination to check out everything. Results . . . Awesome health improvement! I attached a picture of my feet, which may seem odd at first, but let me explain.
Diabetics are known to have severe circulation problems in their lower extremities. I was no different. For so many years that I don’t remember, my nail beds of my feet have been dark gray to almost black. A couple of days ago I was lying in bed and I noticed that something was different about my feet. My toes were pink! I got up and stood on the side of the bed and sat for a while in a chair to see if there would be any change. Instead it remained the same - my toes are pink! I told this to Michel Thursday, feeling my eyes starting to well up. However, tears can not express just how BIG a difference this is for me!
The passage above charges us to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God - which is our spiritual act of worship. I must admit that I previously did not view diet (which means “lifestyle”) incorporating exercise as a “spiritual act of worship.” But it has been as it is written - truly such for me. Enjoying the breaking of the pattern, the transformation caused by the renewing of the mind, and the true opportunity to prove what is His will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will in my life and the lives I will touch as both attorney and pastor.

“Being only slightly past my prime (age 76) and having survived both a heart attack and two major surgeries in the year I was in the market to regain the strength, agility, and bendability I formerly never really had… Although a natural and professional skeptic, my wife wanted me to visit ONE WORLD FITNESS before signing up for the unusual half hearted hour of track and rowing machine at a nearby health club. “When I first saw my wonderful trainer outside I was desperate to find a way to get healthy. I had reached a point of no return (or so I thought). I was eating whatever I wanted, not exercising and my clothes kept getting tighter and tighter. I had no energy and no longer recognized myself. I decided to schedule a jump start. I really appreciated the direct approach the owner took when discussing health nutrition and how an experience at One World Fitness might go. He was sincere, engaged, and understanding. He understood that in order for a wellness programs to work the individual involved has to be completely invested in the endeavor for themselves. The owner, as well as the One World Fitness community, embraces the fact that people make mistakes and instead of dwelling on the mistakes, the folks at One World Fitness discussed with me what is working, what is not working, and possible courses of action.
Then, I had my training session. I was very excited and pretty nervous. Walking into the gym I did not think of myself as a healthy individual. I thought of myself as a nice chubby girl. Right from the get go, my trainer was supportive and patient. I enjoyed the workout and how we watched my heart rate so I never over did it, and at the same time reached an optimal workout level. My trainer always plans out a targeted full body work out and respects my feed back if I am interested in a certain exercise.
I have lost 19 pounds in 1 month! When I walked into my jump start session I never thought I was going to lose the weight. I could not have done it without my trainer. He is an incredible and unique person. He completely embraced the One World Fitness mentality and is able to discuss the importance of rest, stress level, nutrition, and exercise. Whenever I walked in for training and was struggling with keeping my eating plan going, or was stressed about progress or even weigh in, my trainer ALWAYS had encouraging advice and a positive, realistic perspective. He was comfortable and involved when discussing each aspect as mentioned above, even when mind games and self doubt would creep in he was there to refocus me and remind me of the importance of positive self reinforcement. He always gives his all to the client. My trainer pays very careful attention to client’s ability, form, and needs during a workout. When it is your time in the gym he is completely focused on you, and makes sure you have the best workout possible. He will continue to be supportive on every step of the journey. What may seem like an easy task for one person was like climbing Mount Everest for me and my trainer was there celebrating every bit of growth with genuine support and encouragement.

If you are ready and dedicated to making healthy life changes (that last) you will succeed at One World Fitness. I was someone who ate pizza, pasta, cookies, fast food, and ice cream and never exercised. In a short month my whole self concept has changed.
